My Journey Fly Fishing in the Pacific Northwest

There’s a certain magic in the early morning mist that hangs over the rivers and lakes of the Pacific Northwest. The first light of dawn gently kisses the water’s surface, casting a golden shimmer that dances and sparkles. It’s a sight that never gets old, no matter how many times I witness it. Fly fishing in this corner of the world is more than a hobby for me—it’s a spiritual retreat, a way to reconnect with both nature and myself.

I remember my first trip to the Hoh River in Washington . Nervous but excited, I stood at the river’s edge, feeling incredibly small against the vast landscape of pine trees and rugged mountains. The river moved with a quiet power, its clear waters revealing the secrets of the world beneath—darting fish, glistening rocks, and swaying aquatic plants. As I practiced my casts, the rhythmic motion of the fly rod calmed my mind, and soon, the worries of everyday life seemed to drift away with the current.

The tranquility of the surroundings was more than enough. Just as I was beginning to think of packing up, I felt a strong tug on my line. What followed was a thrilling battle—a dance of strength and skill against a powerful steelhead. When I finally brought the fish to hand, it wasn’t just a catch; it was a connection, a story shared between angler and fish.

What is a Taboret? My Journey of Discovery and Creation

What is a taboret, you might ask? Well, I asked the same question when a client approached me to create one for them. Intrigued and eager to dive into a new project, I set off on a journey of research and discovery. Here’s what I found out and how it led to one of my latest creations.

Discovering the Taboret

A taboret (or tabouret) is a small, portable stand or cabinet frequently used by artists and craftspeople in various settings. The designs can vary widely, but typically, they feature multiple compartments, drawers, or shelves to efficiently organize tools and materials.

In an artist’s studio, for instance, a taboret might hold brushes, paints, palettes, solvents, and other essential supplies. The idea is to keep everything within arm’s reach while working on a project, thus enhancing productivity and keeping the workspace tidy.
