While many of them are quite simple, I’ve always been drawn to creating pieces that stand out as truly unique. That’s why I gravitate toward marquetry art.
I’m currently considering taking a very straightforward cabinet design and elevating it by adding marquetry to the doors. The only question now is what kind of pattern I should choose for the marquetry. It’s an exciting creative challenge, and I’m eager to see where my imagination takes me next.

This is what I call the “dream bench”—a design that came to me in the early hours of the morning, as inspiration often does when my mind finally gets a break from commission work and I can focus on my own ideas. Looking back at my designs, I realize how much I’m influenced by Japanese architecture. While I haven’t had the chance to visit Japan, living in the Puget Sound area of the Pacific Northwest—an area with deep historical ties to Japan—has certainly shaped my aesthetic.
To date, I’ve created only three of these benches. Two are out in the world: one holds a client’s loved one’s ashes in the sphere, and the other is with a client whose current whereabouts I’m not certain of. The original walnut bench remains in my home.

I’ve been super busy with creative thoughts lately, juggling between designing pieces and venturing into video creation to give you an idea of what I do. Filming an interesting, informative, or entertaining video is a whole new learning process and takes a ton of time. Amid all of that, trying to be present in my family life has left me with little time to brainstorm blog ideas. However, I’ve just had an epiphany for a topic! Why this topic, you might ask? Well, the last two pieces I designed were based on concepts that clients had seen elsewhere. They wanted me to create something similar, but I took it as just a suggestion—a starting point. Only later did I realize that they wanted exactly what they had seen, yet with a unique twist. This is where imagination kicks in.

This was quite an imaginative exercise! I used ChatGPT to help me write it, and it’s been a very useful tool, especially since I have dyslexia and my writing skills aren’t the strongest. As an exercise, I prompted it to write a story about coffee and a chisel. After a few more prompts to refine it, this is what I ended up with. Just some fun reading for you!
I’m really excited to dive into a new marquetry project. I wanted to give you a heads-up that this piece will be up for sale once it’s finished. This time, I’m trying something different by incorporating a bird into the design. Birds have always fascinated me with their grace and beauty. I believe they will add a unique touch to the artwork.
