When I first laid my eyes on the Lie-Nielsen No. 5 hand plane, I instantly understood why it’s called the “jack of all trades” in the woodworking world. I spend countless hours in my workshop. Designed for flattening, smoothing, and trimming wood, it felt like the missing piece in my ever-evolving collection of tools.

In the realm of luxury home furnishings, solid wood furniture commands respect as a hallmark of enduring sophistication and exquisite craftsmanship. At Anderson Woodworks, every piece of furniture embarks on its transformative journey from the serene embrace of nature, where selecting the right wood becomes an art form in itself. I meticulously choose premium hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or cherry, prized for their rich grain patterns and exceptional durability. These woods are not merely raw materials; they are heirlooms of nature, each with a distinct narrative that enriches the character and elegance of the final masterpiece.
As the journey unfolds, the wood enters a meticulous phase of preparation. At Anderson Woodworks, this involves a careful process of air and kiln drying, ensuring the wood achieves its optimal moisture content—a crucial step to ensure stability and longevity. I then examine each plank, discerning its nuances and aligning grain patterns with surgical precision. This intricate step lays a robust foundation, readying the wood for its transformation into art that transcends time and trends.
In true artisanal fashion, the creation of each piece at Anderson Woodworks involves marrying traditional woodworking techniques with innovative craftsmanship. Techniques such as mortise-and-tenon and dovetail joints are employed, eschewing modern fasteners in favor of time-honored methods that enhance structural integrity. These methods, honed over generations and perfected at Anderson Woodworks, require unparalleled precision and an eye for perfection, mirroring the artisans’ unwavering commitment to excellence.
The shaping phase is where artistry truly comes alive. Here, the wood is sculpted into elegant forms through nuanced carving, turning, and bending, often achieved by hand. Each element, from graceful legs to supportive arms, is finely crafted to harmonize seamlessly, creating a symphony of form and function. At Anderson Woodworks, tools become mere extensions of me creativity, shaping not only the wood but the very soul of the furniture itself.
The finishing touch is where the piece truly transcends into luxury. And I apply sumptuous oils, and wax meticulously accentuating the natural grain while providing protective allure. The result is a polished finish that beckons touch and admiration. Each coat applied is a testament to patience and an unwavering attention to detail, ensuring that the finished product resonates with both beauty and function.
Beyond the masterful techniques and luxurious materials, every iconic piece crafted by Anderson Woodworks carries stories that resonate with cultural legacies and personal journeys. Whether inspired by the minimalist elegance of Shaker style or the sleek innovation of mid-century modern design, each furniture piece encapsulates its own origin, the skilled hands that crafted it, and the exquisite environments it will grace.
In a world where mass-produced simplicity often overshadows artisanal precision, Anderson Woodworks continues to epitomize the pinnacle of solid wood furniture. For our discerning clientele, understanding the journey from tree to table at Anderson Woodworks enhances appreciation for the unparalleled skill, dedication, and passion that transform nature’s finest into heritage pieces. Whether it is a grand dining table or an elegant lounge chair, these pieces are far more than elements of décor—they are timeless narratives, crafted with impeccable care and destined to enrich spaces for generations to come.

As the leaves begin to change colors and the air turns crisp, the arrival of fall brings with it a unique opportunity to refresh and enhance our living spaces. The transition from the heat of summer to the cooler temperatures of autumn encourages many to rethink how they decorate their homes. Here are a few key ways that the fall season influences our home decoration choices.
Embracing Warm Tones
One of the most noticeable elements of fall is the transformation of nature’s palette. Rich reds, oranges, yellows, and browns become prominent as trees shed their leaves. This seasonal shift inspires many homeowners to incorporate these warm colors into their decor. Throw blankets, cushions, and wall art in autumnal hues can create a cozy and inviting atmosphere that mirrors the beauty of the season.
In addition to textiles, consider using seasonal floral arrangements that reflect these warm tones. Sunflowers, chrysanthemums, and dahlias, often found in fall gardens, can add a lively splash of color to any room while also reinforcing a sense of seasonal change. These arrangements can be placed in simple, earthy vases to enhance their natural appearance and create a more cohesive look.
Moreover, the use of warm tones isn’t limited to fabric and flowers; it can also be reflected in furniture. A warm, amber-hued wooden table or earthy terracotta pottery can add depth and richness to a space, reinforcing the seasonal theme. By thoughtfully selecting decor items that embody these colors, homeowners can create a more holistic autumn ambiance throughout their living spaces.
Seasonal Textures
Fall also brings a variety of textures that can enhance home decor. Elements such as burlap, wool, and knitted fabrics evoke warmth and comfort. Incorporating these materials into your decor through pillows, throws, and table runners can make your space feel snug and inviting. Additionally, using elements like pinecones, acorns, and branches in centerpiece arrangements can help bring the outdoors inside, creating a natural and organic feel.
Layering different textures can amplify coziness and visual interest in your home. For example, combining a soft knitted blanket with a more rugged wool throw can provide both tactile comfort and aesthetic contrast. This layering effect can also be used in bathroom decor with soft towels set against the backdrop of wood or stone features, providing a welcoming touch that feels soothing as the weather cools.
Incorporating seasonal textures goes beyond just fabric, as even wall decor can reflect the vibe of fall. Textured wall hangings, such as woven baskets or framed botanical prints, can add dimension to your space. Using nature-inspired decor—like driftwood or stone accents—can also ground your home in the seasons, providing an earthy connection that unites your indoor and outdoor environments.
Festive Touches
With Halloween and Thanksgiving on the horizon, fall is a time for celebration. This season is marked by festive decorations that can liven up any space. From cute pumpkins and spooky decorations for Halloween to grateful themes featuring autumn harvests for Thanksgiving, there are endless ways to add a touch of festivity. Creating themed vignettes throughout the home not only expresses the joy of the season but also allows for creativity and personal expression.
Incorporating traditional symbols of autumn can enhance the seasonal spirit. Think of hanging wreaths made of dried leaves or corn stalks at your front door. For Halloween, consider crafting spooky decorations or setting up scarecrows to greet guests. These small touches can create a warm welcome while celebrating the playful and decorative aspects of the season, engaging family and visitors alike.
Beyond holiday-specific decorations, incorporating scent can also boost the festive atmosphere. Candles and potpourri with fragrances like cinnamon, pumpkin spice, or apple create an immersive experience that appeals to the senses. The combination of visual and olfactory decor will evoke nostalgia and warmth, inviting everyone to savor the joys of the autumn season even more.
Lighting and Ambiance
As days grow shorter and nights become cooler, the lighting within our homes takes on greater importance. Fall decorations often include soft lighting options, such as candles, lanterns, or string lights, to create a warm and inviting ambiance. These lighting choices can help evoke the feeling of comfort and togetherness, making your home a perfect gathering place for family and friends.
Another way to enhance the cozy vibe is by using lamps with warm-toned bulbs or shaded covers that diffuse light softly. Positioning these lamps in strategic spots—like near seating areas or on bedside tables—can create intimate corners throughout your home. Combining different light sources strengthens the layered lighting concept, offering versatile illumination options for various activities, from reading to enjoying a meal.
Furthermore, adding seasonal elements to lighting can set the mood even more. Consider decorating mantels or tables with illuminated pumpkins, fairy lights intertwined with branches, or hurricane lamps filled with dried leaves. These creative displays not only enhance the aesthetics but also contribute to a sense of celebration that characterizes the fall season.
Outdoor Spaces
Fall also encourages us to rethink our outdoor spaces. As the scenery changes, many take the opportunity to decorate porches and patios with seasonal elements. Mums, pumpkins, and hay bales can transform an outdoor area into a charming fall retreat. Utilizing comfortable seating and outdoor blankets can also encourage spending time outside to enjoy the beautiful weather.
In addition to decorating, think about enhancing outdoor functionality. Creating a fire pit area adorned with cozy blankets and pillows can turn your backyard into a perfect spot for evening gatherings. Adding outdoor rugs can help define areas and provide comfort while seated. Seasonal outdoor lighting can illuminate these spaces further, allowing families to enjoy the enchanting evenings of fall.
Another idea is to incorporate the seasonal harvest into your outdoor decor. Arranging a small display with gourds, corn husks, and seasonal flowers not only adds beauty but serves as a celebration of the season’s bountiful offerings. Embracing these elements outside creates continuity between your home’s interior and exterior, offering a harmonious experience as the fall days unfold.
Conclusion
The arrival of fall is not just a change in season; it’s an opportunity to refresh our home environments. By embracing the colors, textures, and festive spirit that fall brings, we can create spaces that reflect the warmth and beauty of autumn. Whether it’s through cozy textiles, seasonal decorations, or inviting lighting, the impact of fall on home decoration choices is profound, allowing us to celebrate the season in style.
Ultimately, personalizing your home with fall decorations allows for a unique expression of taste and creativity. Each element chosen serves to tell a story—whether it’s a cherished family tradition or an appreciation of nature. As we gather around seasonal decor with loved ones, we create lasting memories against the backdrop of an inviting and festive home.
In addition to the aesthetic value, the act of decorating can foster a deeper appreciation for the changing seasons. It encourages us to slow down, reflect, and engage with the world around us. As we embrace the spirit of fall, we not only enhance our living spaces but also enrich our lives with the beauty and warmth of this special time of year.

This is a desk I was commissioned to create for a local artist it was made of cherry. My client called with the basic question could I create a desk for him to have all his art supplies close to his work. He had fond the plans of a certain desk he wanted but it was back East and shipping would cost an arm and leg so asked if I would make it so we did. I am not a fan of copping work so we made a few changes the plans had wheels instead of solid feet then I also added solid front with pulls on there plan were just cutout’s for your hand . I also added a paper towel holder under the garbage can pullout. I like the looks and the client is happy so this was a fun project to create.

As a maker of fine furniture, I’ve always believed that the best pieces can tell a story about who you are. When you surround yourself with handcrafted furniture, you’re not just filling a room; you’re creating a space that speaks to your soul, your roots, and your aspirations.
A Mirror of Identity
Selecting furniture is a deeply personal act. You’re making choices that reflect your taste, your history, and your values. It’s not just about style—it’s about finding that perfect balance between beauty and function, a harmony that resonates within you.
Take a finely crafted rocking chair, for example. Its elegant lines and warm, inviting wood not only offer a comfortable place to rest but also tell a story of artistry and dedication. The subtle grain patterns, the smooth curves—they all add up to create something that’s uniquely yours, much like the experiences and memories that shape who we are.
The Artistic Nature of Handcrafted Furniture
Furniture making is an art form, closely akin to painting or sculpting. When I create a piece, I see it as creating a piece of functional art. Each stroke of the chisel, each smooth sanding motion is part of bringing the material to life.
Consider the process of crafting a dining table. It’s not just about joining pieces of wood together. It’s about understanding the soul of the wood, knowing how to bring out its beauty in a way that will stand the test of time. The end result is a piece that is as visually arresting as it is functional, much like a well-composed painting that you can live with and use every day.
The Connection Between Maker and Owner
When you invest in handcrafted furniture, you’re investing in a piece of the craftsman’s heart and soul. There’s a deep connection that forms when you own something that’s been lovingly created by human hands. It’s this connection that adds immeasurable value, turning everyday objects into heirlooms filled with emotional significance and personal history.
Moreover, handcrafted pieces often come with the option of customization, allowing you to put your own touch on a piece. This ensures that the final product is a true reflection of your tastes and requirements. It’s this personal touch that solidifies the bond between the furniture and your identity.
Sustainability and Individuality
In a world increasingly mindful of sustainability, handcrafted furniture stands out as an eco-conscious choice. Many craftsmen, like myself, use locally sourced and sustainable materials, employing methods that minimize waste. When you choose fine, handmade furniture, you’re supporting not just individual artisans but a whole ethos of sustainability and mindful creation
Conclusion
Fine furniture, particularly handcrafted pieces, go beyond mere functionality. They’re expressions of identity, crafted with care and imbued with the spirit of the maker. Each piece reflects the indelible marks of human touch, transforming ordinary materials into enduring works of art.
By welcoming these treasures into your home, you’re not only creating a beautiful space but one that’s deeply personal, filled with stories and identities of both the maker and the owner. In the end, fine furniture is a celebration of art, craftsmanship, and the unique tapestry of who we are. It’s more than just furniture – it’s part of your life, your legacy, and your ongoing journey. Hey there! Lately, I’ve been reflecting on my journey as a furniture maker, and I’ve noticed that I’ve drifted a bit from my own style. While I absolutely love helping others discover their unique tastes and creating pieces that fit their needs, relying solely on commissions hasn’t allowed my own creative spark to shine as bright as I’d like.
Just this morning, as I enjoyed my breakfast and admired one of my earlier creations—where my coffee was happily perched—I had a lightbulb moment! That piece brought back so much joy, and it reminded me of my passion for crafting. I can’t wait to share it on my website and offer others the chance to bring such a special item into their homes. I’m excited to reconnect with my creativity and start making furniture that truly reflects who I am!

Innovative Elegance: The Evolution of Art Deco Furniture Through the Ages
Art Deco furniture is a bold and distinctive style that emerged in the early 20th century, reaching the peak of its popularity in the 1920s and 1930s. This movement reflected the changing social and cultural landscape of the time, characterized by a desire for modernity, luxury, and avant-garde design.
The origins of Art Deco furniture can be traced back to the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes held in Paris in 1925, from which the style takes its name. This event showcased a range of innovative and eclectic designs that combined traditional craftsmanship with modern materials and techniques. Art Deco furniture is known for its geometric shapes, bold colors, and luxurious materials such as exotic woods, ivory, and chrome.
One of the key features of Art Deco furniture is its emphasis on sleek, streamlined forms that were often inspired by modern technology and machinery. This can be seen in the use of geometric motifs such as chevrons, sunbursts, and zigzags, as well as the incorporation of angular shapes and clean lines.
In addition to its modern aesthetic, Art Deco furniture also embraced a sense of opulence and glamour. This can be seen in the use of lavish materials such as lacquered wood, polished metals, and exotic veneers, as well as in the intricate detailing and ornamentation that adorned many pieces.
Art Deco furniture was not only a reflection of the modern age, but also a response to it. In the aftermath of World War I, there was a desire for escapism and luxury, and Art Deco furniture provided a way for people to indulge in a sense of glamour and sophistication.
Although the popularity of Art Deco furniture waned following World War II, its influence can still be seen in contemporary design trends. Its bold aesthetic and luxurious materials continue to inspire designers and collectors alike, ensuring that the legacy of Art Deco furniture lives on as a symbol of elegance and innovation.
