Finding Inspiration in a Dark World: A Woodworker’s Morning Reset
Good morning. Today’s post is about inspiration the real kind, the kind that pulls you out of the noise and reminds you why you create in the first place.
Lately, I’ve been so entrenched in the news cycle and so focused on keeping my business moving forward that it feels like joy is getting harder for people to find. The world is heavy right now. Dark, even. And some days it feels like it’s swallowing us whole.
But then one morning, something shifted.
As I was drinking my coffee and clearing out emails and social notifications basically playing the daily “get rid of the red dots on my Windows” game I noticed my Pinterest app was open. And for those who think Pinterest isn’t a serious place for artists or makers, I’d encourage you to dig deeper. There are some incredible creators on there.
That morning, I stumbled into a wave of marquetry inspirationb for a table I’ve been wanting to design. Suddenly, ideas were flowing again. Patterns, textures, light, contrast all the things that make marquetry such a powerful art form.
Now I’m sketching a piece that I believe will be beautiful, intentional, and hopefully bring a little light into this dark world we’re all navigating.
Because we need that light.
Things will get better that’s the natural rhythm of history but we all have a role in helping us get there. It starts with how we think, how we act, and how we choose to show up creatively and personally.
My hope is that my work can help people see that brighter days are still possible. That beauty still matters. That craftsmanship still matters. That intention still matters.
So stay tuned. I’ll be filming parts of the build and sharing the process as this marquetry piece comes to life.
If you’re interested in the craft, the story, or the journey, you’ll want to follow along.
